Hessen is a state located in west-central Germany. It covers 8,153 square miles. It is bordered by six other German states. These are Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and North Rhine-Westphalia. Although Hessen is landlocked, it has many major rivers. Located in the north are the Fulda and Eder rivers. Further down south are the Main and Rhine rivers. Another major land formation in Hessen is the Rhon Mountains. The highest peak is 3117 feet high, known as Wasserkuppe. Also, about 40% of Hessen is covered by forests. Located in the southwest is Wiesbaden, the capital city of Hessen. However, the largest city in Hessen is Frankfurt. Major industries and exports in Hessen include chemicals, machines/vehicles, and electrotechnical goods. The pictures above show a map of the German states, the Rhine River, a view of Wiesbaden, and Wasserkuppe.
